They say that MHA authorities explained that Ladakh could not be granted full statehood immediately due to inadequate revenue generation to meet expenditure requirements, including employee salaries. However, the proposed arrangement could eventually pave the way for full statehood once the Union Territory meets the required revenue criteria.
According to the two groups all bureaucrats of the Union Territory, including the Chief Secretary, would function under the executive authority of the elected body, proposed to be headed by a Chief Minister.
Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance have announced that they have reached an “in-principle understanding” with the Government of India on providing constitutional safeguards to the Union Territory.
In a joint press note issued by the two bodies representing Ladakh, after a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs today, claimed the Centre had agreed to provide constitutional protections for Ladakh “on the lines of Articles 371A, 371F and 371G,” similar to safeguards available in Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram.
However, a word from the Government of India is awaited on the understanding reached as claimed by the two groups representing Ladakh.
Impact of West Asia crisis is one of the biggest crisis of this century says Indian PM Modi; Adds, govt is trying to reduce impact but citizens need to conserve fuel, implement WFH etc
“My mother, father and I had collected them and now I keep them with me," the 5-year-old says. When asked what she remembers by these shrapnels, she replies “I was crying that night when shells were falling, I still recall. I can’t catch sleep."
The shrapnel in her hand is cold, lifeless metal. But the mark it has left is not. It lives in the questions she asks, in the fears she cannot yet name, and in the childhood that now carries the weight of something far too heavy. Read more 👇

The High Court further observed that the detention appeared to be punitive in nature, rather than preventive, a misuse of the PSA framework.
It reiterated that preventive detention cannot be used as a substitute for ordinary criminal proceedings or to bypass them.
The High Court found that the material relied upon by the authorities, including 18 FIRs and 16 Daily Diary Reports (DDRs), did not justify invoking the stringent preventive detention law.
The court held that the allegations against Malik, even if accepted, largely pointed to law-and-order issues, which could be addressed through ordinary criminal law, and did not meet the higher threshold required for preventive detention.

A historic day for Ladakh.
I have approved the notification for creation of five new districts in Ladakh, fulfilling the aspirations and long pending demand of the people of Ladakh.
With creation of five new districts - Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass - Ladakh will now have seven districts, from existing two. The development is aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed & prosperous Ladakh.
This transformative decision, already approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2024, under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs, Shri @AmitShah ji, would strengthen grassroots governance, decentralise administration & ensures faster delivery of public services to the people of Ladakh, especially those in remote & far-flung areas.
Creation of new districts, apart from bringing governance closer to citizens, will create new avenues for growth, employment & entrepreneurship.
I reaffirm my commitment to ensuring that every citizen of Ladakh benefits from this historic decision, as we move together towards a brighter, stronger & more prosperous future.
