🚨STATEMENT
We are deeply concerned by multiple reports reaching us of students and other protestors being targeted, detained, or arrested by various state agencies, particularly in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.
The Cockroach Janta Party had called off its nationwide protest only after the Government of India assured us that no punitive action would be taken against any protestor, either now or in the future, in any BJP-ruled or NDA-ruled states. The reports emerging from these states are therefore a matter of grave concern.
First, we wish to assure every protestor that our legal team is already coordinating with brilliant lawyers in the concerned states to secure the release of those detained and to extend all possible legal assistance. This has been happening from Day 1.
Second, we call upon the Government of India, particularly @JPNadda ji and @DrJitendraSingh ji, to immediately honour the assurance given to us by ensuring the release of those detained and by directing that no coercive or retaliatory action is taken against any protestor anywhere in the country. The FIRs registered ought to be withdrawn too.
The Government of India is also reminded of its commitment to furnish us the written guarantee in this regard by tomorrow, Tuesday, 28 July 2026.
Our decision to suspend the nationwide protest was taken in good faith and solely on the basis of the government’s assurance that it would stand by its word. Any departure from that assurance would not merely amount to a breach of trust with the Cockroach Janta Party but would also be a breach of public trust with lakhs of young Indians who chose dialogue over protests.
Such breach of trust will be completely unacceptable to the youth.
The Government of India is reminded that it derives credibility not from just making a promise, but from the promises they honour.
To the young protestors we say, hold on. We are with you. The CJP continues to closely monitor the situation and expects the Government of India and all BJP/NDA state governments to act with utmost urgency, responsibility, and good faith that the present circumstances demand. We demand that all detainees/arrestees be released immediately, and in any case by tomorrow, and that all FIRs be withdrawn immediately, failing which we shall take further necessary steps.

IT'S A VICTORY OF DEMOCRACY
direct democracy... straight from the streets.
It's a victory of peace, patience & persévérance.
Congratulations CJP, Gen Z of the nation and thank you all citizens for shedding fear and the fear of fear and rising up from every corner of the nation.
FROM ACCOUNTABILITY, NOW TO REFORMS
Police excesses during students’ protest | Supreme Court has said that the right to peaceful protest is a constitutional guarantee, that the mere existence of an agitation cannot justify alleged police excesses against demonstrators. A bench led by CJI Surya Kant also indicated that there is a need for a uniform protocol across the country to facilitate peaceful protests and enabling authorities to act against anti-social elements.
“Right to peaceful protests is in the Constitution. Right to peaceful protest is absolutely guaranteed. That cannot be denied. Merely because there is agitation cannot justify police excess,” the CJI observed.
The court, however, also expressed concern over allegations of attacks on police personnel during protests. When a lawyer referred to incidents involving injuries to police personnel and attacks on their families by an unruly mob, Justice Joymalya Bagchi said, “Injury to police is of equal concern. We may call upon the State to respond why adequate safeguards were not provided…”
The CJI added that there should be a protocol governing peaceful protests across the country.
“There should be a protocol when someone wants to agitate peacefully. Proper space for that. There is no impediment in that regard. But if there is any anti-social element that can be dealt with,” the CJI said.
The court further observed that the issue required an all-India approach and spoke of evolving mandatory guidelines to ensure uniformity.
“It’s a question of all India… this uniformity in protocol is also… Self-discipline is integral to the entire process,” the CJI observed. The matter has been listed for further hearing on Tuesday.
i genuinely dont gaf abt cjp or any other political party. Right to hold peaceful protest is our fundamental right, sonam sir and all students are literally on hunger strike since past 20 days and now sonam sir is forcibly removed from there? I too want him to end his fast but
I am at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi where @Wangchuk66 has been admitted. Nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenous without take consent from me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days.
World is witnessing a Coward government who don’t want to engage in a dialogue with the youth but want to behave like Dictators . Forcibly taking away @Wangchuk66 and disrupting Students peaceful protest is a sign of Fear . What a SHAME #justasking
The offence of NEET UG Paper leak is against the Nation, it damaged the reputation of the country, several students committed suicide, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said on Thursday while opposing the bail plea of Dr. Manoj Shirure.
The Rouse Avenue court reserved the order on the bail for July 22.
Its not only about NEET paper leak or the CBSE OSM thing. Go to youtube and check the ground reporting during 2022 Gujarat, 2023 MP and Rajasthan or any state election in the recent times. You will be shocked to know how many gov exam paper leaks happen. And its one of the most serious issues which has never got its fair share of attention. Constable, Talathi tak ke papers leak hote hai. Just a quick google search will show u is saal hi 7-8 papers leaks ho chuke hai. Exam hota bhi hai to result salon saal nahi aata. Result aya to training ka letter nahi ata.
I pray for Sonam sir, everyday. Wishing a lot of strength to him. A man like him shouldn't put his health and life at stake for people who don't respect him, or show even a bit of empathy. The irony of people questioning HIM more than our ass of a government is INSANE to me.
you can be any party supporter and still call out the mistakes of your own party without blindly following them. you can dislike any party and still support a real cause raised by them
You may or may not support the CJP or Wangchuk's hunger strike. But the NEET-UG paper leak was real. The 12th board copy checking blunder was real. >20 lakh students suffered, & some tragically lost their lives. I think we're all on the same page that D. Pradhan must resign.
why is it so hard for some people to understand that questioning our own government doesn't make someone anti-national or automatically an another political party supporter 🤡?
An Open Letter to the Jantar Mantar protestors:
My dear young friends,
I address you today not as a politician or an MP, but as someone deeply troubled by what is happening to your generation of young Indians.
This is personal for me. I was born to a middle-class family: my father was a salaried newspaper employee, my mother a homemaker, with three children to educate on one income. For a family like ours, merit was not a slogan. Scholarships, fair examinations, honest results — these were the only way one salary could carry three children's dreams.
I went to school in Mumbai and Kolkata, to college here in Delhi, topped the University and earned admission into IIM — and chose instead to follow my passion for international affairs, in America, on a scholarship. Nothing was inherited; everything was earned by hard work and yes, Exams.
So I know that a fair, merit-based system is the only ladder for young people from lower and middle-income families to climb up. When that ladder is broken — papers leaked, examinations cancelled, trust destroyed — the children of the rich and powerful do not suffer. They have other ladders. It is your dreams, and your families' sacrifices (and tragically, in some homes, young lives themselves) that are betrayed.
To the young people gathered at Jantar Mantar, and those raising your voices peacefully across India: this country hears you. Your anger is not indiscipline — it is the anguish of a generation that did everything right and was still betrayed . You are not alone.
And to the millions of young Indians watching quietly: your generation is not a problem to be managed. You are the answer to India's future. Do not lose hope. This ladder will be rebuilt — by you, and by every Indian who stands with you.
To Shri Sonam Wangchuk-ji, my heartfelt appeal: please end your fast. You have awakened the conscience of the nation; that is what a fast is meant to do. India needs your voice for the long road ahead.
With Parliament in session again from Monday, we will have an opportunity to raise the students’ issues in the highest forum of our democracy. That’s where the problem should be addressed, not by fasting unto death. Please heed my plea.
And finally, to the Government: I respectfully urge you to reach out and engage in the dialogue our democracy owes its young citizens. That is not weakness; that is statesmanship.
Petrol pump owners claim that ethanol’s hygroscopic nature or affinity towards water is leading to contamination of their E20 stock during monsoons and in coastal areas since the existing underground storage tanks were designed for conventional petrol, not higher ethanol blends. Three petrol pump owners shared their concerns over the roll out of E20 with 'The Hindu' speaking on condition of anonymity, as oil marketing companies have instructed them not to speak publicly on the issue.
