In light of the recent trend of Germans longing for the good old days when East Germany was a Russian colony, a reminder of 1953.
On June 17th, 1953, the Russian authorities in East Berlin got tired of the population complaining about oppression and brutality of Russian rule. So, as they did in Budaoest in 1956 and Prague in 1968, Moscow sent in tanks, murdering 55 German citizens and wounding 15,000.
The squalor of East Germany was already so bad after only 8 years of Russian rule that the wounded had to be sent to West Germany for emergency hospitalization.
