More interestingly, support among voters aged 18-29 is reportedly beginning to resemble the party’s traditional base among the over-60s. which creates a problem for Gennady Zyuganov’s party. To turn young protest-minded leftists into actual voters, the Communists will have to become more visibly oppositional and more radical.

The party is already presenting itself as an “alternative party of power,” but the risk is obvious. The CPRF is a systemic opposition party used to operating within the rules of the Russian political system and its new young voters may want something sharper than that.
