It's very possible that North Korea could eventually move toward a Russia-Belarus style “Union State” arrangement with Moscow.
It would give Russia a demographic and labour-market boost, especially in the Far East, where there's already a long history of successful Korean migration. In fact, Russia's richest woman, Tatyana Kim, is a poster child for it.
For Pyongyang, it would offer something even more important because open access to Russia gives North Korean elites a route to money, protection, education, trade, work and political insurance without having their cultural identity swallowed up like could happen with China.
Not to mention that the ruling Kim family were originally imposed by Moscow and Kim Jong Un's father was born in Khabarovsk and was known as "Yura" to his family and close friends.
It would honestly be hilarious that after years of treating Belarus like it's involved in this conflict, they get involved out of spite.
"We're already getting treated like we're part of this conflict, might as well join in"
