I bought fuel yesterday in Toronto, Canada, at $1.7999 CAD per litre, and it cost about $98.95 CAD to fill up my tank. This should ideally last me about a week or more.
Now, the minimum wage in Canada is $17.95 CAD per hour, which means someone who works an average of 8 hours a day will earn $143.60 CAD before tax. A day's salary is enough to fuel his or her car for 2β3 weeks. This means that even one of the lowest earners in Canada can afford to own and drive a car daily without the cost of fuel becoming an overwhelming burden. Public education for children is also free and of high quality.
In Nigeria, fuel is about β¦1,300 per litre. It would cost about β¦88,000 to fill up a similar tank. The minimum wage in Nigeria is β¦70,000 per month. This means that an entire month's minimum wage cannot even fill the tank once.
A minimum-wage earner in Nigeria cannot realistically afford to own, fuel, and maintain a car. The same person still has to afford food, rent, children's education, healthcare, electricity, transportation, and other basic necessities. The list goes on.
In fact, even a bank manager in Nigeria earning β¦1 million monthly could still struggle to maintain a decent standard of living after covering these basic expenses.
This is one reason poverty is so widespread in Nigeria. The cost of basic living is simply too high relative to what the average person earns.
You don't just have an income problem in Nigeria. You have an affordability problem.
For millions of Nigerians, simply living a decent life has become too expensive and increasingly impossible.
An APC guy insulted me, so i followed him to the DM at around 10pm and asked for his account number, he sent it and i said i will send him money before he sleeps and i text him sent.
I did not send him the money, i just want him to feel how fake promises and propaganda of APC hurt Nigeria.
He has since sent me about 6 messages claiming he did not see the money and i replied he will see it when Nigerians see the benefit of Tinubuβs reforms heβs being lying about.
APC has lowered the bar terribly.
- The president no longer addresses the nation directly, doesn't take interviews or media chat, doesn't attend presidential debates
- Forgery ruled out as disqualification grounds for contesting elections
- President goes to visit victims of banditry and killings but couldn't get to the actual village due to bad roads and other appointments. Mourning families were made to go meet him at the airport
- No public bidding for projects. The president just awards to whoever he wants (read Chagoury)
- Judiciary and Senate are singing "on your mandate we shall stand"
- State social media handles now used to attack former governor
- Now he's working remotely from France
The list goes on. How low can we really go before we say it's enough?
You are talking about NDA passing out parade, the guy attended only one Independence Day event, in 2024. He ran to Lagos in 2025, and he is visiting Nigeria again today and will land in Lagos, to avoid October 1st in Abuja, again! The guy clearly doesn't believe in Nigeria.
Who remembered when Buhari was on his regular medical leave outside the country and Osinbajo took over for like a month and there was illumination in the country?
Stop asking what another person woud do differently if they were president. It makes you look foolish.
Two of the greatest sound bites ever recorded in a live tv interview have come from our southern brothers.
