Graphql is genuinely the most retarded idea ever. There used to be an entire career around graphql
Honestly the best part about automating programmers is that I don't have to hire people, which means that I don't have to tolerate bad engineering decisions
I’m turning 41, but I don’t feel like celebrating.
Our generation is running out of time to save the free Internet built for us by our fathers.
What was once the promise of the free exchange of information is being turned into the ultimate tool of control.
Once-free countries are introducing dystopian measures such as digital IDs (UK), online age checks (Australia), and mass scanning of private messages (EU).
Germany is persecuting anyone who dares to criticize officials on the Internet. The UK is imprisoning thousands for their tweets. France is criminally investigating tech leaders who defend freedom and privacy.
A dark, dystopian world is approaching fast — while we’re asleep. Our generation risks going down in history as the last one that had freedoms — and allowed them to be taken away.
We’ve been fed a lie.
We’ve been made to believe that the greatest fight of our generation is to destroy everything our forefathers left us: tradition, privacy, sovereignty, the free market, and free speech.
By betraying the legacy of our ancestors, we’ve set ourselves on a path toward self-destruction — moral, intellectual, economic, and ultimately biological.
So no, I’m not going to celebrate today. I’m running out of time. WE are running out of time.
Every single time here I see Americans announce their trip to Asia
"Asia" is always Japan
I lived in Asia for a decade and when I see it I'm always like hmmm
Asia is 4.5 billion people and you're visiting the country with 125 million that's rapidly depopulating with a culture that stopped evolving socially, economically or even technologically around 1995, possibly the least interesting country in Asia
Japan's cultural export is undeniable but it's also highly cringe, a culture obsessed with childishness that exports anime and pushes grown ups to forever stay in their childhood with plush toys and cute stuff, omggg kawaiiiiiii!! ^_____o
There's a lot more to Asia and I'd say skipping Japan is your first step to do it properly
Go to South Korea, a highly modern tech country with amazing infrastructure, then Taiwan which is a nice way to see how pre-Mao China would have looked kinda
Then go visit a big city in China (not Hong Kong!) like Shenzhen or Qongqing or Chengdu, you're now in a country with 1.4 billion people!
Have Sichuan hotpot in China with people that don't speak a word English, have an actual experience of traveling Asia
Then visit Vietnam (the fastest growing country in Asia now), a bit of a mix between China and South East Asia
Do something different!
Most of Asia is highly safe, I know cause I lived there for a decade, and every single place I felt more safe than in Europe or US, never got robbed, never had anything happen to me
I'm sure this post will get a lot of angry replies because it's an inconvenient truth
I'm not trolling or baiting, I truly believe this
Go explore the rest of Asia and skip Japan for now
The real loser here is AI safety people because I do not give a fuck about their made up dangers when the actual danger of China beating us to AGI is staring us in the face
it's honestly insane that we expect people to take more than 8 years to become a medical doctor. it should take 2 years max, it's all memorization anyways. it's not technically difficult stuff like math or physics
bro your entire profession is just anki. your whole profession is easily hackable with the same technique that weebs use to learn japanese. your "expertise" can be emulated by swapping out a 17 year old's japanese anki with biochem anki. come on man
