We are thrilled to host a delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania led by Emmanuel Lameck Mkilia, the Acting Director General, Personal Data Protection Commission Tanzania for a four-day benchmarking study tour to appreciate our progress in implementing data protection.

Our Deputy Data Commissioner Festus Musyoki highlighted Kenya's framework and journey since 2019 when the Data Protection Act was enacted.

The team also learned about our organization structure, registration & compliance procedures, and complaints, investigation & enforcement processes.

The two teams further exchanged ideas on various operating environments of the DPAs which are currently under initial stages of implementation.

The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau- NDPB National Commissioner Dr. Vincent Olatunji paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner as a culmination of the week-long study tour by the @ndpbngr1 delegation

Dr. Olatunji thanked ODPC for hosting its Nigerian counterpart and underscored the importance of sharing experience and the varying operating environments in order to find best practices that will enhance regulation in Africa.

Kenya's Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, MBS @ikassait on her part, underscored the need of increased collaboration among Data Protection Authorities in Africa insisting on the need to ensure that every conversation on data protection strongly features the African agenda.

"Without harmonization, DPAs in Africa stand a risk of being sabotaged thus making effective compliance and collaboration across borders difficult," she said.
