Arewa boasts the highest Muslim population in Nigeria. In many of its states, over 90% of the citizens are Muslims. The streets are filled with mosques, Islamic schools are everywhere, and scholars are in abundance. On the surface, you would think these are the most God-conscious places in the country.

They parade their commitment to Islam loudly, setting up Hisbah to police private lives, arresting boys for haircuts, girls for dressing, destroying business that doesn't confirm with shariah law, and dragging people for not fasting.

Yet, despite all this show of piety, these same states are drowning in b@nditry, terr0rism, kidn@pping, and bl00dshed. And here is the bitter irony: the terr0rists and bandits wreaking havoc are not outsiders. They are their own people. Born, raised, and shaped by the same so-called Islamic environment.

So what exactly is the purpose of all the mosques? What is the essence of the endless adhan, the Friday khutbahs, the religious slogans, when the same soil keeps producing monsters?

Islam was never about obsessing over appearances while the heart rots. If a state can flood its streets with mosques but fails to produce human beings with conscience, justice, and mercy, what Islam is truly being practiced?

Arewa has perfected religious performances but failed miserably at genuine transformation. And that is why, despite all the mosques and scholars, the land remains curs3d with vi0lence and d3struction.

Until this hyp0crisy is faced head-on, nothing will change.
