[ Sighing when seeing Hunter's expression change ]
Yeah, it was. But you're still doing it. Maybe a little different this time, but something's wrong and you're not telling me.
So... can you tell me?
[ giving a flat stare. He's not buying it, sorry bud ]
Remember when I ran into you at hexside and caught you eating buttloads of hexmix instead of actual food?
You said you were fine then.
You were lying.
[ Crossing his arms with a shrug]
"I- No that's not the point."
What does Gus even say here? 'Remember when you had a panic attack during the hexside attack? I mean like that' is a little too much. But Hunter doesn't take hints. At all.
"I mean Luz and I just want to make sure you're taking care of yourself."
"I think so." In his defense, he was more focused on not getting eaten to see what it was that jumped out the wall.
"Look, I know you want to protect all of us, but who protects you?" He asks seriously. "Luz is just worried. And I can see why."
“Wasn’t that the thing that popped out of the wall and ruined my first blueprints of the portal?”
A pause.
“And I’m trying to protect us from whatever is lurking out there. I can. Luz just gets mad for no reason.”
Humming along in agreement, though stops.
"I get why– who knows what lurks in the dark waiting for unsuspecting humans to come out of their houses?" A pause.
He leans in closer and whispers "Have you heard of Possums? They eat the human's natural predator with no drawbacks."
Shooting Hunter a disbelieving look, but letting it go at the question.
"Just... can't sleep. Can't stop thinking."
He's not used to things like this, so this double sucks for him.
"Trying to sleep. Which you should be doing, too."
He sighs, reaching up to rub his eyes while sitting up slowly.
"But– I can't sleep so I guess I'm just... awake. So what are /you/ doing?"
The problem with deflecting is that it can deflected back.
