Story Time #20 - "The tragedy of @pushatee22"

This one might be a little long, and it's told with an extremely heavy heart. This is the story about a person who was the most loving, caring, genuine, and passionate I have met in all my years, not only the FGC, but in life. I feel the need to tell this story to tell the world how amazing Terrance was, but also how huge a loss it was the night he passed away. I tell this story to also deal with the pain I still hold to this day and how this changed my life forever. This sad moment occurred late one night in 2014 at Super Arcade in Walnut. I learned so much from this and I'm sorry if I ramble during this post cause emotions are running high and I am typing this directly from my heart. Terrance was coming off a match of Killer Instinct on stream and was walking towards the commentator area to get back on stream and commentate with his best friend @Illwill4125. These 2 are literally brothers and when they were together you could just see the joy they shared in the game and life in general. Their presence at the arcade was always positive and everyone loved them. So back to the sad story...... Terrance was stepping behind the commentator's booth and fell flat onto the chair. I heard a thump and then heard Illya saying "Stop playing bro, get up, stop messing around." PushaTee was a joker and he would actually do something like this for fun etc, so we didn't know exactly what happened at first and I didn't pay much attention at the start. Then I heard a little desperation in Illya's voice and our streamer @IEBattleGrounds started yelling at me "Call 911 Mike, f*cking call 911." Sh*t got real really fast and after calling 911 we cleared out the arcade and a few people were trying to perform CPR on Terrance. The EMT and an ambulance arrived pretty quick, I believe it was literally under 2 minutes as our old location was near a fire department and during that time of day there was easy access and no traffic. So soon as the professionals arrived everyone stepped aside and it was only me and maybe Mando were left in the arcade to make sure everything was ok. Since the paramedics arrived so quickly we all had hope things would be ok and they started performing CPR and doing other things to revive him...... Here's the sad part, and I'm sorry for putting details out there, but if you know anything about death or what happens prior, this is common. I was watching them perform their duties and after a few attempts they stopped. I saw Terrance's eyes open then a line moved up and you could see a black line follow and his pupils turned completely black. I also saw his body go completely limp and his bowels released. I knew the worst had just happened and I wanted to scream in both sadness and being scared myself. This is also a time where I learned how professionals are truly pro and what happened next is something I will appreciate the EMTs for. They loaded his body onto a stretcher and propped him up to look like he was ok. I didn't realize it immediately, but this was to keep everyone around calm and to not scare anyone who was around at the time...... After they wheeled him out, a few of his friends and Illya followed them to the hospital still not knowing the entire truth of the situation. Mando was telling me "Let's go Mike, let's go!" but I already knew what happened and tried to tell him calmly. He didn't care, he still believed, so I respected his faith and we went to the hospital too. I just witnessed someone die in front of me and it was really tough to keep my sh*t together, especially when it's someone you actually care about. There's more to this sad story........ So we arrive at the hospital and we're just sitting in the parking lot trying to be supportive, then all of a sudden a car pulls up and you can hear screaming coming from it with the doors and windows all closed. I have never in my life heard a worse cry of sadness...... it was a shrieking straight from a horror film that I still have nightmares from. It was his wife who just showed up with no idea if her man was still alive or not. I stayed the hell out the way and she was rushing into the ER to see what was going on...... After about an hour, reality was setting in and Mando and myself left the scene. The aftermath was terrible but we did what we could as a shop, and as a community to come together for Pusha and his family. He is survived by his wife and children and we ran a fundraiser for him along with @maximilian_. Never got to thank you for that Max, but you know it's greatly appreciated. There was a promise made that I would continue to run an arcade and that's why I never gave up on Super Arcade 2.0 in Azusa regardless of all the obstacles. I sacrificed all I could to make a home for all those who wanted to attend and to this day have no regrets about it. I want to thank so many people for everything they have done. But I really want to thank Mr Terrance Moore for being a friend and always being that shining light in what was sometimes a dark place. You brought life to the arcade, you brought a smile that lit up the room, and most importantly you brought a love and gift of friendship that all of us will never forget. It's so rare to have a person not have any haters at all and there's not a person I can think of that has 1 bad thing to say about this man. Terrance, we all love you, we all miss you, and we all thank you again for being an amazing human being in a world that needs more people just like you. May you rest in peace and look down on us knowing you made us better people in the process......
