🚨 India is building its own space station, the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), with the first module, BAS-01, set to launch in 2028.

- Completion slated for 2035.
- Orbit altitude: 400 to 450 km above Earth.

One of the largest private sector investments in Canadian history is coming home to Alberta.

@Meta has chosen Alberta for its first Canadian AI data centre, a historic $13 billion investment that will create thousands of jobs, strengthen our economy, and help position our province as a global leader in artificial intelligence and technology.

This project will support 3,000 construction jobs, 300 permanent positions, generate an estimated $250 million in annual benefits for Albertans, and invest $60 million into local roads, water, and community infrastructure.

Meta is fully funding new generation and grid infrastructure to support the data centre, which will improve reliability across the entire Alberta grid benefiting electricity customers across the province by reducing transmission costs by up to six per cent on Albertans’ utility bills.

Seeking public assistance in extortion investigation

We are looking for the public’s help to identify two individuals & a vehicle that were involved in a property damage incident last week. The incident is believed to be connected to an ongoing series of extortions targeting the South Asian community.

📍 On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approx. 5:15 a.m., two individuals caused damage to three vehicles parked outside of a residence located in the 300 block of Skyview Parkway N.E., before fleeing in a grey Ford Expedition. Previously, an extortion-related shooting occurred at the same location on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Officers from our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section are investigating and believe that the two incidents may be connected.

The first suspect was wearing a black jacket, black pants & white shoes.

The second suspect was wearing a coral-coloured hoodie, a black jacket, blue jeans & black shoes with a green logo.

🔵 EXTORTION UPDATE - ADDITONAL CHARGES LAID 🔵

Our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section has laid charges against 5 men in relation to an elaborate scheme to extort a Calgary victim. This incident is an escalation of the ongoing violence associated to an extortion series that is targeting the South Asian community.

📍 Last week, a man was kidnapped from a residence in Edmonton by 4 men. The victim was assaulted, threatened at gunpoint & forced into a vehicle where he was driven from Edmonton to Calgary. Once in Calgary, suspects attempted to use the Edmonton victim to lure a second victim out of his residence in Cityscape.

The second victim & his wife attempted to leave their residence, at which point they were followed & threatened with a firearm. These victims fled back to their residence & contacted police.

Police located a vehicle fleeing the area & arrested 2 men. The remaining suspects drove the first victim back to Edmonton, where he was released.

4 men have been charged and a 5th is wanted on warrants.

📌 Taranveer SINGH, 24, Daksh GAUTAM, 25, Akashdeep SINGH, 18 & Pardeep SINGH, 24, are each facing unlawful confinement, firearms & assault-related charges.

📌 Gagandeep SINGH, 29, is also wanted on criminal warrants in relation to this incident.

“This is a significant escalation in violence in the extortion incidents that we have seen in Calgary so far. Since this series began, we have been working very closely with our policing partners nationally to share information & co-ordinate our response, which allowed us to quickly make arrests in this case.” - Supt. Jeff Bell of the CPS Criminal Operations & Intelligence Division.

We believe additional suspects were involved. Since January 2025, there have been 45 extortion-related attempts in Calgary, including 19 shootings. To date, 11 individuals have been charged.

Yesterday, we issued a statement condemning @POTUS’s repost of rhetoric targeting Indian and Chinese Americans and underscoring its serious implications. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve seen for calling out the racist screed that our president shared, and we are reassured that our country remains a pluralistic democracy to its core. 

But while we appreciate the thousands who have joined us in condemning white supremacism, we’ve been disturbed to see that, even in moments like these, when Asian Americans should unite, some Indian Americans choose to turn on their own community instead of holding accountable those who perpetuate harm.

No amount of noise changes the underlying truth: Asian Americans are integral to the fabric of this country, driving its economy, strengthening its institutions, and enriching its society in measurable and lasting ways. HAF has consistently been critical of both Democratic and Republican leaders when they threaten our community’s standing & progress, and remains committed to addressing issues based on principle rather than partisanship.

Any attempts by fringe groups to distort, diminish, or deny this are not only inaccurate but fundamentally disconnected from reality. A few clarifications, since yet again people are resorting to the half-baked narrative of HAF “getting burned” after “endorsing” Trump instead of the more difficult work of engaging the facts, let alone our perspectives. 🧵
