The Fabelmans is the best movie about movies ever made because its central thesis is that movies will ruin your life and the lives of those around you but what are you gonna do? not do movies?

Based on the long-running comic strip created by E.C. Segar (and less on the animated cartoons created by Max Fleischer, which were decidedly different in tone and approach), Popeye follows the sailor man with the mighty arms (played by Robin Williams in his first major film role) as he arrives in the seaside community of Sweethaven in search of his long-lost father. Popeye meets and quickly falls for the slender Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall, in the role she was born to play), but Olive’s hand has already been promised to the hulking Bluto (Paul Smith), of whom Olive can say little except, well, he’s large. Eventually, Popeye and Olive are brought together by Swee’ Pea (Wesley Ivan Hurt), an adorable foundling, and Popeye finally meets his dad, Poopdeck Pappy (Ray Walston). Director Robert Altman in no way tempered his trademark style for this big-budget family opus, crowding the screen with a variety of characters and allowing his cast to overlap as much dialogue as they want.

the phrase "lipstick on a pig" has always inspired a deep sadness in me. I think of the pig, looking forward to her big night out, and I bring myself to the verge of tears.
I will always credit the Jackass cree for shifting a massive young male crowd much more progressive in the aughts. It was “you can still do stupid and weird shit and you don’t have to be shit to people!” Messaging. It wasn’t perfect but it’s much better than what boys see today.
These people have been waiting an hour to get into Madison Square Garden.
Here is a first person account:
“They routed everyone down to 34th and 8th.
Police barracade.
Through metal detectors to a point about 200 feet from MSG.
Then they came and apologized and said they were confused and instead we needed to exit the barracade and go to 34th and 7th.
We walked there and then a different set of police told us to go to 32nd and 6th.
There are hundreds, if not a thousand people, wandering around in giant herds not knowing where to go or how to get in.
The police keep saying they don’t know the protocol.”
You are not class conscious if you have an issue with the Obsession art director wanting more money for their labor because the film exploded in income
The ending of Obsession might not be as hopeless as it looks.
Everyone assumes Nikki is headed to prison because she's covered in blood and surrounded by dead bodies.
But the movie makes it clear that Nikki and Wish Nikki are two different people.
Wish Nikki was the one controlling the body and making the choices.
So when Wish Nikki dies, the real Nikki finally gets her body back.
And here's the interesting part:
If Wish Nikki made the wish for Bear to fall in love with her, then the real Nikki may have never used a wish at all.
That means Nikki could still have a wish left.
She could go back to the store, undo everything that happened, and maybe even bring Bear back.
The movie never confirms it, but it leaves the door open for a much happier ending than most people realize.
