I wrote +2,000 words on the snowball effect that prominent filmmakers (e.g., Aronofsky, Soderbergh, and Scorsese) are creating as they get involved with AI in one way or another. https://t.co/t3UcPbjwUR
This is him crossing a troubling boundary. By attaching his name to this, he’s letting companies like it profit from the fact that a high-profile creative is legitimizing generative AI, even though it seriously threatens the art form.
I’m shocked Scorsese is doing this.
All of this is just incredibly disappointing. It’s one thing to admit that he’s personally used AI in pre-pro, but to go down the path of partnering with a generative AI startup just feels antithetical to the art form that Scorsese has championed like no one else for generations.
Martin Scorsese has joined a generative AI startup as a partner and advisor.
He adds that he has used AI during pre-production to help with storyboarding — “with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly & efficiently to my creative team — the production designer, art designer and cinematographer.”

Incredible podcast episode. A must-listen (or watch). Spielberg’s stories about Kubrick, watching it for the first time, and whatnot are all golden. Also, there are some all-timer category moments. Apex Mountain episode of The Rewatchables.
"Star Wars used to always inspire big reactions, so it is extremely damning that the reaction that feels most appropriate with this film is a shrug."
This is my review of Jon Favreau's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. https://t.co/rLrYmghRSg
Rewatching the movies you love is one of the best things you can do to improve your life. People seem perplexed by the idea of rewatching something. Imagine listening to a great song only once. Absurd.
Relative newcomer Inde Navarrette manages to carve her name next to other horror movie icons by turning in a truly extraordinary rollercoaster ride of a horror movie performance in Curry Barker's OBSESSION. #review

Every once in a while I am reminded of a very nice but confused taxi driver who once drove me around NYC. He thought Denmark was still being occupied by Germany in the 2010s. He was saying stuff like: “It’s terrible what they do to you guys. You need to stand up for yourselves.”
On top of the key changes to international feature, AMPAS also announced serious changes so as to emphasize that AI performances are ineligible for awards consideration. It’s also notable that performers can now theoretically be nominated for multiple films in the same category.
In addition: From now on, the film/filmmaker will be the nominee/award winner rather than solely the country that submitted the film (assuming they were submitted). This is a much requested change. #oscars#internationalfilm
Big change for Oscars: International movies can now be submitted if they win a major film festival, even if their home country doesn’t submit. Will prevent great films from being snubbed for political reasons and make the Intl category even more competitive.

Unless they're doing a 'John Wick fights and shoots his way to his wife in the afterlife' movie, then I'm not sure it could be that exciting. John Wick 4 was great, and it was a great ending to the character.
That said, I'd love to see that afterlife Wick flick.
Disney trained their audience to know that Mandalorian is on Disney+. Are they really confident that people will run to the theaters for it? The marketing for it hasn’t been great. Do people know this is a thing? Is this something people really want? Not sure. I guess we’ll see.
I wanted to like it more. This trailer is fine but forgettable. Not any more or less excited about the movie. I like Mando and Grogu, but this just feels like a supersized episode of a streaming show that struggled in the latest season. Worried about this. Hope it’s good.
I don’t know a lot about this story. But it looks really good. I hope this is a hit for Ridley Scott. Really like the trailer (and the cast). #thedogstars
