한국이 가진 패가 나쁜 건 아니다.
인력풀 자체는 여전히 경쟁력이 있다.
문제는 그 풀을 갉아먹는 두 개의 구조적 구멍이다.

첫째는 병역임. 과거엔 유럽 구단이 한국 선수 영입을 망설인 가장 큰 이유가 군 문제였음. 28세까지 해결 못 하면 국내로 돌아와야해
구단 입장에선 시한부 자원인 셈임.

손흥민조차 2018 아시안게임 금메달이 사실상 마지막 기회였고, 그걸 놓쳤다면 한국으로 복귀해야 했다.

문제는 이 병역 해소 경로가
올림픽·아시안게임 메달이라는
극소수 관문에만 묶여 있다는 것임.

권창훈의 경우인데, 유럽 5대 리그에서 단일 시즌 두 자릿수 득점을 넣은 정상급 자원이었지만, 부상으로 아시안게임 참가가 불발되자 병역이 통째로 꼬여버렸음.

여기서 둘째 구멍이 드러남.
한국은 너무 엘리트 트랙 하나만 깎아 키움.
메달 → 면제 → 유럽 잔류라는 단일 경로에 모든 걸 걸어둔 구조임.

그래서 선수가 부상이나 대회 탈락 같은
변수로 그 트랙에서 한 번 미끄러지면,
받쳐줄 대안이 사실상 없음.

천재 한 명을 띄우는 데는 능하지만,
그 천재가 넘어졌을 때 일으켜 세울 시스템은 비어 있는 것임.

결국 일본과의 격차는 '인재가 없어서'가 아니라, '있는 인재를 끝까지 못 지켜서' 벌어진 것이기도 함.

이제라도 설계를 다시 해야 함.
병역을 대회 성적의 복권으로 두지 말고
예측 가능한 제도로 정비하고, 한 명이 미끄러져도 다음 자원이 받쳐주는 두꺼운 트랙을 깔아야 함.
