Reporters have been asking the office of VP Sara Duterte for answers to questions about confidential funds.
Finally a response. Excerpts and screenshots:
*REPLY: THIS IS A LEGAL OPINION OF MS. CASTRO, WHO IS NOT A LAWYER.*
*REPLY: THIS IS A FINDING OF MS. CASTRO WHO IS NOT AN AUDITOR.*
To be clear, Rep. Castro isn’t the only one who’s raised questions. Lawyers like former Senate Presidents Drilon and Koko Pimentel have done so too.
Everyone talks about the violence of rebels in the rural areas as if leaving integrated onion farmers to suffer *by policy* is not institutionalized violence

Whenever I feel demoralized about my role in the grand scheme of (seemingly futile) PH nation-building, I often go back to the words of Prof. Randy David.
One of the cheesiest things I believe in is that nation-building is still worth it. This country gives people few reasons to love it (and many good reasons to leave) but as long as we have the capacity, we should not just be pulling people up the ladder, but building more ladders
Additionally,
“The Filipino nation is unfinished business, and therefore it is understandable that in public discourse the nation’s needs take moral precedence over individual fulfillment.” R. David, 2004.
In the 10 years of GMA's administration, she made 24 appointments to the SC.
In the 6 years of Duterte's, he also made 24.
For further reference:
B. Aquino (6 y) made 7;
Estrada (2.5 y) made 7;
Ramos (6 y) made 14;
C. Aquino (6 y) made 22.
Going off on a tangent in my research today, and TIL:
Claro M. Recto was one of the last SC judges to be appointed by an American President.
A reminder that, this independent republic of ours, is incredibly young still.
celebrated my phd graduation a few weeks ago! pictured here using my degree certificate to hide my pregnancy! while I’m overjoyed, it’s also been bittersweet for a reason many people (esp. British academics) would do well to care more about:
Metro Manila carmageddon has been REAL. I'd say biking is the solution to getting to places on time, but unfortunately, even I find bike commuting these days extremely dangerous. Drivers have been more aggressive and agitated. We're all losing!!!
Finally public! My story of how I was sexually harassed, marginalized, silenced, excluded, and gaslighted at/by the @HarvardSTS Program. Join the #MeTooSTS and #WeDoSTS movement to fight together against abuses of power in STS/academia! 🤬😱😲😭😳🤮🤢✊https://t.co/dGLgfyQKbs
Churchill did indeed serve George VI and Elizabeth II, but that was more than 60 yrs and 14 PMs ago.
I personally cut off "past decades" to 50 years - sometimes even 30... which was just the 1980s....🥲
