@MikeDro_ Haha even as a Red Sox fan, I do like this. ABS is great even tho my Sox suck at challenges.
Exposed so many umps making game changing bad calls.
Do you realize the average value of shortstops these days? And are we really looking at batting average? What is this 1995?
25 homers last year. 31 steals on 32 attempts. 4.5 oWAR...
I'm not saying he's an elite shortstop anymore, far from it. But even looking at just last year, the pattern remains the same. He's crap until June and then he tends to go on a tear the rest of the season.
You don't carry Story for his consistent offense, especially early. No one ever has.
His defense slipping severely hurts his value, but offensively you carry him because for 2-3 months at a time he gets hot and carries an entire team on his back. Almost always in the 2nd half.
Maybe that flame is out. But he almost never takes off before May.
Show me evidence to the contrary and I'll agree with you. Until then, patience young padawan learner.
@SmittyOnMLB@Cryan_Doherty Devers would be just as bad wearing our uniform. They gave up a consistently depreciating asset.
Its Breslow's most genius move. Saved the Sox a decade of destruction. We can forgive a subpar year.
At least actual Red Sox fans can.
@Willie_Montilla@CraigBreslow I keep trying to explain this! If you could today trade Durbin for Devers including the contracts, who would you take?
100 out of 100 smart people take Durbin.
Part of Anthony's struggles this year is Red Sox fans putting entirely too much pressure on him to be the guy. Both the front office and the fans have him painted as the next Aaron Judge-type.
That's not a fair standard. I think he will be great, but he has to get there on his own.
You're 100% coping. I wish you weren't and I'd be all for buying him back if the math supported it. But his bat speed has been dropping significantly year over year for a few years now. His "off-year" was a fluke if his bat speed rebounded this year. Instead, it dropped over an additional MPH (believe 1.1 MPH).
The Giants couldn't give him to anyone for nothing if they have to absorb $1 of the contract. He's staying put.
Think you make some great points normally Daniel, but on this one you gotta ride the hot hand and plus player at this point.
Narvaez is good too and should be kept. Gasper should probably go down. But there's a better argument to sending down Mayer and posting Gasper at 2B than sending down Wong.
I'm not sure what you're looking at.
The guy who publicly talks about his mental health struggles and connects with fans?
Not at all a piece of shit. Everyone makes mistakes.
@ItsWheels11 is entirely right. If this were anyone else, we'd all be cheering. Maybe its time to not run our most passionate players out of town... Just a suggestion.
Absolutely the correct decision. This is why Valdez was on the market until late in the off-season. He's a cancer and Detroit is quickly learning that.
MLB has suspended Framber Valdez for 6 games with a fine for intentionally throwing at Trevor Story. Valdez denied it. Didn’t matter. Well-deserved punishment.
AJ Hinch has also been suspended for tonight’s game, despite essentially saying he didn’t agree with what Valdez did.
@DTG616@DJWR57@JustBB_Media I agree Duran has sucked. But I kinda get it. The trade rumors all year. Changes in his swing. The unnecessary off days making it hard to get in a rhythm maybe.
The package proposed still isn't looking great.
Not sure this is really a fair critique. For all those Bregman or Alonso folks I'm not sure a .680 to .720 OPS drastically changes this lineup. This appears to be a group of talented players lacking true leadership.
That's not to say Henry shouldn't sell the team, but the players are failing the Red Sox right now significantly more than the front office.
