I went to a baby shower where the couple was really hoping for a boy and I asked them why not a girl? They said“boys are less emotional” and apparently “easier to raise.” ...Meanwhile, their own son was having a full-blown meltdown because his mom asked him to put his plate in the sink crying, yelling, making a scene while everyone just sat there in silence. That moment really reminded me how many women have been convinced that boys are somehow less emotional than girls, when sometimes they’re simply given more permission to express, neglect, and offload those emotions onto everyone around them.
