Recent controversies over transphobia among Chinese lesbians have drawn international attention, and I’ve received numerous messages from people who are curious/concerned about the current living conditions of trans women in China. I wish to take this opportunity to explain the structural oppression and struggles for survival that trans women in China currently face. The target audience of this thread includes fellow trans people and allies around the world and to cis people who view us with skepticism or outright hostility. My name is amber. I am a trans woman who grew up in China and a PhD student at @wgsi. My research focuses on transfem community history in China since 1980. This is a long thread. 苦难是不能被拿来比较的，这本来就是个很主观的东西，没戴红领巾和失业是一样痛苦的，真丝手绢和小脏手擦的都是货真价实的眼泪。男的难女的难老人难小孩难，世界上的苦难从来都不少，真正缺少的是互相包容与理解，允许任何人有脆弱和痛哭的权利吧。大家都辛苦了。
