The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (@NITDANigeria ), @KashifuInuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, has emphasised that the future of Nigeria's banking industry will be determined not merely by the ability to raise capital, but by how effectively financial institutions protect, preserve and grow that capital through digital innovation.
Inuwa made the remark while speaking as a panellist at the Future of Banking Nigeria Summit, organised by CNBC Africa in Lagos State. He participated in a session titled "The Efficiency Frontier - Al, RegTech and Cyber Resilience," where industry leaders explored how emerging technologies are reshaping the financial services landscape.
According to DG NITDA, Nigeria's banking sector has consistently demonstrated resilience through major reforms, from consolidation to recapitalisation. However, he noted that the digital era demands a new approach in which trust is built on resilient digital infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence (Al), cybersecurity and Regulatory Technology (RegTech).
He explained that Al is enabling financial institutions to improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, drive revenue growth and deliver personalised customer experiences. At the same time, RegTech is helping institutions strengthen regulatory compliance, improve governance, reduce operational costs and enhance resilience against emerging risks.
Inuwa further stressed that regulators must innovate alongside the private sector by creating enabling frameworks that encourage responsible innovation, protect consumers and sustain confidence in the financial system.
He reaffirmed NITDA's commitment to driving the adoption of emerging technologies and fostering a secure, innovative and resilient digital economy in line with the Federal Government's digital transformation agenda.
NITDA's participation at the summit reflects the Agency's continued efforts to promote digital innovation, strengthen cybersecurity and support the development of a resilient technology ecosystem that accelerates sustainable economic growth.
