Most tv and radio channels keep you engaged with their content via social media.

They're aiming at Gen Z and Gen Z alone, who are fickle and easily moved across media depending on how it makes them "feel".

So channels are employing people with large social followings, younger demographic and who can get you quickly feeling "I like his bantz" or "he's a tit". Channels hope then you tune in to watch them again.

Roy Keane became an inadvertent and unlikely example. Employed to give a serious and competent Captain's view of Premier League football. Instead he's been moulded into the Grumpy old Dad woken up in his armchair frequently by the 8 year olds who want to pull his leg.

Where it ends, who knows, but I'd suggest it's not quality sports broadcasting, it's a desperate attempt by mostly middle class men in decision making positions trying to figure out how to keep viewers and listeners in a competitive market.
