When trying to figure out how the CFP24 gets divided up between the Networks, you got to remember one thing before you start with your math. The number you use is 23 not 24. That is the number of games that there are in a 24 team tournament.
@PDawg206 I just want people to give themselves a chance to enjoy it. They have made it pretty clear that they are going through with it regardless. At some point, the fight becomes pointless and is just self defeating if it robs someone of the ability to find enjoyment in it.
Just got to love the whole "participation trophy" attack on the CFP24 concept. This comes from "those whom love CFB".
Really? The Bowl System has been part of CFB for how long? It does not get as much participation trophy as that. It used to be that everyone went to a pointless exhibition game that quite literally would give you a participation trophy for taking part in it. We are talking literal participation trophy's being part of CFB for the longest time as its post season.
These future playoff games? They dont give you a participation trophy. If you win, you actually go forward and continue competing. That is the opposite of a participation trophy.
The sheer stupidity of the comment is mindblowing, especially considering those using it actually think its a valid attack.
Just one more example of why such loud voices have been completely ignored in the process.
I respect them. I dont stop respecting them just because I disagree with them on this. Please dont get my disagreement mixed up either. Its just that I am not willing to jump to negative conclusions because I see plenty of improvements with this system
Also the reality is that it seems the choice was either between the 12 or the 24. The Bye was non-negotiable for some reason so that means 16 was tossed. A 20 team bracket is ugly, absolutely terrible so it was either 12 or 24. The Bye system for 12, in my opinion, ruined the 12 team because they were stuck with their schedule due to the Bowl affiliations.
The 24 makes that a lot better.
I need to see it play out. I dont think teams are going to throw games, I dont think coaches are going to approach winning games differently. Will they take opportunities to rest players in blowouts? Sure but they already do.
I think seeding will be very important. I get that in the realm of perceived value, some of this can seem to be a big deal.
I am ok with it if we see a situation where a "better" team ends up being a lower seed in a game. They will have to play that game as the away team, that is their penalty.
The first two rounds as home games is a game changer. With the 12, the teams with the Byes dont get a home game. Sorry but I am actually excited to see how that plays out. The bye system in the current layout is terrible.
Nope, still deny it. Because its math that doesnt matter.
So many people have been on a crusade to hate this thing that they have seemingly spent zero time actually learning about it.
I just dont care. Sorry. This is the most pointless crusade to carry on as its guaranteed to have zero effect.
No team is going to be not caring about losing. There will be real value between ranks and that includes the top 4 vs the next 4 and then being in 9-13 so that after you win you go against a 5-8 instead of a 1-4.
There is lots of math to it, people are being picky and choosy on what math they want to use in order to push their little nihilistic crusade. If you wish to spiral into a depression over this, then you do you but you arent taking me with you, sorry.
No its not undeniable. Its an opinion.
Worth half as much? Sorry man, but you are losing me here and it isnt because I dont understand. It just doesnt make much sense.
You say Iowa vs Nebraska is a play in. Maybe it is, maybe it isnt. It absolutely would have been last year if last year was the CFP24.
This point that everyone talks about is entirely theoretical, certainly possible, but definitely not proven or guaranteed.
The teams certainly are not going to treat the games as pointless. Its all just in the minds of some viewers.
Talent is spreading out and a lot more teams are spending big money on rosters. The players dont stick around for Bowls so that needs to be replaced. Its happening whether folks like it or not. So if folks wish to be nihilists about it, well that is their right to be.
Personally, I'm just going to wait and see.
That isnt how it works. For a team that as a decent season, as you put it, to play for a national title they would have to win a game at another team's home stadium whom was ranked above them. Then they would have to go to the home stadium of a team that had a "great season" and beat them there too. Then after that they have to go a neutral site to play yet another team that had a "great season" and beat them too. Then you have to do that again against a team that would have had an even "greater season". Then, finally after that you get a chance to play for the national championship.
So even if they ended the season at 8-4, if they win the national championship they would have had to go 13-4 on the season.
That is how absurd the argument is that you and many others make. There is quite literally no thought to it. Its just stupid mob mentality thinking.
You have a nice day.
@HopiumOD I'm still laughing at you that you are seriously trying to say that Bowl Games are less of a participation trophy practice than actual tournament games.
Last I remember, they supposedly had a "hand shake" deal. My internal wondering has been on whether the Executive Committee had approved yet.
Last I remembered, they had only approved in advance expansion to 14 as that was basically the same model as the 12 but with two more participants and two less byes.
I dont know if they have already approved. I haven't seen the reporting on that but maybe it happened and I missed it.
@bbm010 Hey I got no problem with folks loving the idea of using those participation trophy Bowls as an excuse for a vacation to somewhere with lots of Sun and great beaches.
@DarikHanback You know, I am not sure. From the reporting, it sounded like their was division on the voting but the B1G and SEC were pushing it through the Management Committee.
I am not sure if the President level Executive Committee has already approved it or not.
@tiger_then That's fair. Just to point out that I have them 9 spots farther back than the AP and 10 spots farther back than the Coaches. I even have a direct common opponent to compare them to Boise State. Was actually one of my deepest explanations. Did you see the explanation comment?
@XASTUPIDNAME Iβm sorry but they recently lost to Pitt and California. They donβt have a win to push them up. They kind of fell back into the pack.
Yes they have to beat Clemson but then they need to beat SMU after that now.
It was good to see Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark in Ames today. I asked him if that BYU game over the weekend gave the league a little bit of mojo going into the rest of the season.
