When people claim that a vaccine has caused "x" number of deaths, this number is often from VAERS. But again, it is not accurate to count every, or even the majority, of VAERS-reported deaths as related to a vaccine.
#MisinformationMonday
Vaccine monitoring systems, like the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), are important to flag potential vaccine-related safety issues. But data from VAERS is often misrepresented to scare people. Let us explain:
3. VAERS captures coincidental events, like heart attacks or other illnesses that would have occurred anyway, even if someone hadn't gotten a vaccine. If someone dies in a car accident after a vaccine, the death can be reported in VAERS, even when it's not related to the vaccine.
Curious how vaccines are made? This new fact sheet summarizes the vaccine development process and arms parents with the facts so they can be confident in their decision to vaccinate their child and #ImmunizeForGood!

The truth is, it is not scientifically possible for COVID vaccines to cause hantavirus. Hantavirus is an entirely different virus from COVID and no part of any hantavirus strains were used to make COVID vaccines.

A misleading rumor is circulating online that Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine can cause hantavirus. It is true that hantavirus is listed as an adverse event for the vaccine, but it is not a side effect. Side effects are things caused by the vaccine itself, like mild fever or sore arm.
The event could be caused by another illness, environmental exposure, or medication. It is correlated with vaccination, not caused by it. Correlation does not equal causation.
Can you protect your baby from vaccine-preventable diseases before they're born? YES! Getting vaccinated during pregnancy can pass antibodies onto your baby and help protect them in utero and during the first few months of life.
