Director of @Rescue_EU in Brussels - helping people affected by conflict & crisis to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. Personal account
As the UK hosts the Global Food Security Summit, @RESCUEorg calls on world leaders to endorse a new and simplified approach to treating malnourished children that could save millions of lives.
Up to 2 million children under five die every year from acute malnutrition.
Earlier today I spoke to BBC News about the need to protect civilians in Shifa hospital #Gaza
Hospitals should be a sanctuary, not a battleground.
#CeasefireNOW
Last night giant projections illuminated @EU_Commission sending a powerful message to the leaders of the EU for #Israel-#Gaza#CeasefireNOW.
The international community, led by bodies like the EU, must mobilise to bring about peace to save millions of lives.
🚨Babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at Shifa Hospital, which MAP has supported over many years, are beginning to die from lack of oxygen. More will die soon unless the power supply is restored.
MAP’s CEO @melanie_ward responds:⬇️🧵(1/6)
The reports of fighting around Gaza’s hospitals - including the main Al Shifa hospital - as well as the continued bombing of densely populated areas are a threat to our common humanity. Civilians must be protected.

A shift in Macron’s position. In his speech at the Paris conference the previous day he urged humanitarian pauses while working for a ceasefire. Now he goes further: a ‘humanitarian ceasefire’, and a stop to Israeli bombing. That is more than the brief pauses US has been seeking
.@hopenothate The moment far right thugs broke through (very thin) police lines. How was this allowed to happen? When people call out hate marches - this is it!
As the UN Security Council meets on Gaza, a thread on the profound humanitarian crisis in Gaza; why civilians need a humanitarian ceasefire now; and what help for civilians dictates it must include: ⬇️
Our latest statement on Shifa hospital:
“Power has gone out, and staff are having to hand ventilate critically ill patients to keep them alive… Babies in the neonatal intensive care unit which MAP has supported over many years are beginning to die from lack of oxygen.”
#Gaza 💔
Afghans returning from Pakistan are in urgent need of nutrition and mental health support.
The IRC is scaling up its emergency response to meet the growing needs as up to 200,000 people arrive in Afghanistan.

Italy’s new migration agreement with Albania “part of a concerning trend undermining right to seek asylum - focused on preventing people reaching Europe rather than welcoming them with dignity & respect.”

Fantastic to be joined by @eu_echo on programme visits to Moguno this week. We greatly appreciate ECHO's willingness to remain engaged and present in the most challenging of security contexts.
Good discussion with Ruben Alba Aguilera, acting Head of Cooperation @EUinNigeria, on the EU humanitarian and development work in Nigeria and our ongoing cooperation. Thank you @EUinNigeria and @eu_echo for your support! @RESCUEorg @BabaTOjay
@FranceInNigeria @RESCUEorg
Thank you @harlemdesir@ImogenSudbery & @RESCUEorg team for your visit and excellent discussion. I have great respect for the humanitarian work your organisation carries out in Nigeria under dedicated @BabaTOjay leadership
Fulatari IDP camp, Monguno, where just 3 doctors serve 300,000 people. In Nigeria, IRC is piloting innovative, simplified approaches to malnutrition treatment to have maximum impact&help close the wasting gap, but with 23m food insecure, now is not the time for donors to step back
Deeply humbled to visit our programmes in Monguno&Maiduguri, NE Nigeria, meeting incredible teams who work tirelessly to reach as many people as possible in a highly volatile security context. Their dedication gives people back not only essential services, but agency and hope.
Following the work of IRC assessment teams on the ground, and commencement of aid flows from Egypt to Gaza, the IRC is initiating a response to the humanitarian crisis arising from the current conflict.
