🎉 New research out today
🌊➡️🛰️ Although I’m a marine scientist, over the last couple of years I’ve been obsessed with space debris.
However, alongside colleagues, we noticed that there was a growing pattern. Challenges in protecting the ocean are now being reflected in orbit.
H.E. Razan Al Mubarak, @IUCN President shares exciting news about the inaugural IUCN Africa Pavilion at the upcoming #IUCNCongress. A platform for sharing African-led conservation solutions & a testament to the continent's leadership.

Bonjour, Nice! 🇫🇷
Excited to celebrate science progress at the One Ocean Science Congress and then leap into the United Nations Ocean Conference
If joining, let’s catch up 👋
🌊🗑️🛰️ A new life highlight: telling UK Parliament we’re living in a litter sandwich
Plastic below in the ocean, debris above in Earth’s orbit.
I shared how:
1. We need space literacy
2. Prevention > clean-up
3. We must act fast, before we repeat old mistakes
@minderoo Indian Ocean Forum 🇦🇺
Building a collective IO voice for the United Nations Ocean Conference
Key takeaways:
1️⃣ Capacity sharing not capacity building
2️⃣ Better ways to communicate science
3️⃣ Parachute science, breaking barriers & supporting local knowledge
@JayminLSEM203 Thanks for your Q, Jaymin! Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is lead by example with what is accessible to you.
Even if you pick up a piece of litter, someone probably saw you and next time, they might do the same. Small actions create ripples.
G’day from Perth 🇦🇺
That’s a wrap on the @minderoo Indian Ocean Forum!
Bringing voices from across the Indian Ocean for a collective voice at @UN ocean Conference in June 2025
(And totally meant back to the past, although Back to the Future is my favourite film 🍿)
Edinburgh Ocean Leaders 2025 🏴
48 people from 30 countries, sharing experiences and supporting each other navigating ocean careers
A week of feeling grounded in a pretty bonkers world
2025 = Ocean Year
🇹🇿 Regenerative Ocean Week: 300+ people aimed at turning science→solutions
🌊 First regional High Seas Treaty Workshop: 105 ppl, 14 Govs
♻️ ISLANDPLAS launch: circular econ. of plastics for islands
⛵️ Great Blue Wall expedition: platform for local research
What a welcome to the Seychelles! 🇸🇨
We have joined the Odisea boat during a section of their Great Blue Wall expedition
The boat is providing a platform for local scientists to come onboard and conduct research in remote areas
@IucnE
Study highlights how population density and location shape litter levels, with 60% more found in coastal communities than in inland locations 🌊

🎬 🇹🇿 That’s a wrap on Regenerative Ocean Week in Dar es Salaam
A powerful week for discussing;
- Bridging science & business
- Innovators pitching ocean solutions
- Bringing local research & stories into communities
- Unlocking funding for grassroots initiatives
🌊🇹🇿 Day 2 of the Regenerative Ocean Week!
And what a venue to start the day!
This morning is focussed on Youth/Early Career Ocean Professionals and steps forward for the blue economy

🌊🚀🛰️
The growing debris in the global commons of our planet’s orbital space share similarities to the accumulation of plastic pollution in our oceans.
What lessons can be drawn from managing plastic debris to mitigate the impact of space debris?

📢We are 3 days away from the Regenerative Ocean Week (ROW) conference!
➡️To achieve regenerative marine ecosystem, strategic partnerships are essential.
As we open the conference, key development partners will deliver their message for the sector's dev.

It aims to enhance the livelihoods of individuals in the informal waste sector & reduce #plastic waste through local circular economy innovation
President Trump says he is declaring "a national energy emergency" on his first day in office, citing energy prices as a cause of inflation.
"We will drill, baby, drill," he says.
"We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it."
He says this will also include ending plans for the "Green New Deal" and President Biden's electric vehicle mandate.
