Someone wrote to me and said: 0.2 standard deviations in learning improvement doesn't seem very big, and I replied, "Well actually, it's double the median improvement!" per my study with @Yuan_Fei_ (https://t.co/VbCyBiM82F).
Not just Indians, the whole world is fed up with taxes!
[1] People in UK are migrating because of weak economy & high taxes.
[2] US Citizens are giving up citizenship because of US's worldwide taxation.
(This means that if you are a US Citizen: your worldwide income is subjected to US taxation).
[3] In India, the Rich are migrating.
If we take a step back. And, understand why is this happening?
The simple answer is: during COVID, the governments across the world borrowed.
Now, the time to 'repay' has come.
How this repayment will be done?
[1] Either through increased taxation.
[2] Or ensuring efficiency, making good investments -- which eventually bring more money.
Guess which one is easier?
What we are seeing is just the start.
There are harder times to come.

Govt was desperate to hide this. CII, Ficci & ASSOCHAM also wanted this hidden

Teachers are a powerful influence on student learning.
What happens when teachers stop believing that their effort matters for student learning?
In my JMP, I document the wide prevalence of such beliefs and investigate their role in shaping teacher effort + student learning 🧵
The NFHS is one of the last trusted representative household surveys in India that gets updated, makes micro data available.
Going after the statistical system for inconvenient truths does our country no good. This trajectory, across surveys/indicators/orgs, is depressing.
