@inceptstellar More pertinently, one who writes in English probably has read English fiction, in which dialogue is almost mandatory. Why go through the rigour of writing your own piece for a language you haven't read in? So, it does seem strange people haven't seen this rule in practice

@inceptstellar My own anecdotal experience (yes this is subjective) is I haven't seen as many of those people who are mad at others for not knowing the rule as ESL and Native speakers alike declaring that because they haven't heard of it, they will ignore the rule (yet another can of worms)

hey friendly reminder when you're writing dialogue in fics you're meant to end with a comma and not a full stop/period unless an action follows.

so it should look like this

"I love you, Michaela," Francesca said.

and not like this

"I love you, Michaela." Francesca said.

Lastly, by saying English is the stupidest of all languages, you're displaying your lack of exposure to how many stupid rules there are in every single language that exists. English isn't special! Don't give in to English imperialism and exceptionalism.
