The term firewave describes multiple urban wildfires triggered by extended periods of hot, dry weather.
Hot, dry summers bring new 'firewave' risk to UK cities, scientists warn https://t.co/XuJ2KXwDYe
We recently took part in a new @veritasium video on Lithium-ion battery technology at Imperial. We conducted a demonstration of a battery fire. Watch the video here: https://t.co/Iehy5QK0CR
.@veritasium met our @ImperialMechEng researchers to find out why batteries explode, and how batteries are tested for their safety.
They also visited @ImperialDyson to discuss why we need to design more sustainable energy solutions🔋

I took part in this important documentary on the Grenfell Tower fire, contributing an interview and live fire demonstrations filmed at Imperial College London. I explain the science of building fires, how Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding burns and what we learned fron the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
This film is a necessary reminder of what went wrong and why flammable cladding must never again be allowed on high-rise buildings.
Thank you to the directors and fabulous crew for making this documentary with care and clarity.
Professor Jonathan Jeffers, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Dean for Enterprise in the Faculty of Engineering, was awarded the President's Medal for Excellence in Impact:
