"All that remains of a good man, a good life, is what is written down."

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the final performance of #RSCImperium today.

Tiro will be welcoming you to Rome for the very last time on Saturday.

It's nearly time for #RSCImperium to march out of the Gieglud Theatre in triumph.

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

The politicians of today could learn a lot from Caesar's funeral.

THAT's how you work a crowd. #RSCImperium

Last week, folks!

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Just one week until the Roman Senate meets for the last time at London's Gielgud Theatre. 📜

Don't miss #RSCImperium!

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Passions run high in the senate.

Be careful not to cause offence, though, as friends can quickly turn into enemies. #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Cicero was the greatest orator of his age.

He passed on his skills to a new generation of Roman leaders... skills that they used to bring about his downfall. #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

The Roman Republic was built on secret alliances.

And, as we come to learn, it was secret alliances that tore it down. ⚔️ #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

"I begged you. I knelt at your feet. One day I’ll make you kneel at mine."

Cicero made an awful lot of enemies for a man with a silver tongue! 🗡️ #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

"Why are you putting your family through this torment?"

Cicero puts his family in grave danger when he stands in the way of Caesar's ambition. #RSCImperium

@Dannythefink @Robert___Harris I saw both parts in one day. It only gets better in Part 2. Fantastic performances.

[Daniel Finkelstein @Dannythefink]

Went to see part one of Imperium last night, the plays based on the Cicero books of @Robert___Harris . Magnificent. The tension between shameless populist appeals and defence of freedom by an elite afraid of losing their privileges was superb. Do see it if you can.

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

The gods look down!

But are they impressed by what they see? #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Nepotism, violence, bribery... all rife in Ancient Rome. 🗡️

But we'd never let anything like that happen in politics today. #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Designer Anthony Ward has created both the intimacy of the Roman senate and the 'god-like' grandeur of Caesar's funeral with just one design.

Don’t miss your last chance to see #RSCImperium, at the Gielgud Theatre until 8 September.

Shakespeare only gave Cicero a handful of lines in Julius Caesar. 📜

But there's a great deal to be gained from looking at these events through Cicero's eyes. #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Well, if playing by the rules isn't getting you anywhere...

Some people will do anything for power. #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Caesar graduated from leadership to dictatorship quite naturally... or so he puts it.

That could never happen today though, could it?! #RSCImperium

[ImperiumWestEnd @ImperiumWestEnd]

Ours is a story of Ancient Rome... but look closely and history becomes a mirror. ⚔️ #RSCImperium
