Awareness Message for Elderly Citizens: Beware of “Digital Arrest” Scams
🛑 Dear Elders, Please Stay Alert!
Fraudsters are increasingly targeting senior citizens through fake calls, video calls, and messages. They may pretend to be officials from the Police, CBI, ED, RBI, Customs, or other government agencies and claim that:
1. You are involved in a crime or money laundering case.
2. Your bank account will be frozen.
3. Your children or relatives will be arrested.
4. You must transfer money for "verification" or "clearance."
5. You are under "digital arrest" and cannot speak to anyone.
⚠️ Remember: There is NO legal concept called "Digital Arrest."
No genuine government agency will:
1. Ask you to transfer money for verification.
2. Demand your bank details, OTPs, or passwords.
3. Keep you on continuous video calls.
4. Ask you to sell your property or pledge jewellery.
What Should You Do?
✅ Stay calm and do not panic.
✅ Disconnect the call immediately.
✅ Verify independently by calling the official department through publicly available numbers.
✅ Inform a trusted family member before taking any financial decision.
✅ Never share OTPs, PINs, passwords, Aadhaar details, or banking information.
✅ If someone pressures you to keep the matter secret, it is likely a scam.
