A tale of two Ireland's. You're a parent standing in Dublin Airport, with tears in your eyes, watching your Irish born son walk through departures with his wife and child. On their way back to Australia where they live. They would love to live in Ireland but they would never be able to afford to buy a home and live in their country of birth. It's the first time you have met your grandchild in person. You know you will watch him growing up on Zoom and it will probably be 2 years before you see them again in person. As you make your way through the airport you watch young immigrant males the same age as your son come through the arrivals gate. Many of them have destroyed their travel documents on landing in Dublin to hide their real identity and status. They will be given access to free housing, free food, free bills, free education, and the most generous social welfare of any country in Europe. As you leave the airport, upset, to begin the drive home, you're trying to make sense of it. Exasperated because absolutely none of it does make any sense. #HowIrelandWorks #TwoIrelands
