A friend just back from Meghalaya: “Purba, it didn’t feel like India at all. People follow traffic rules. No one cuts you off. No one leans on the horn. Garbage goes in bins.”
And I thought — of course it didn’t feel like India. Because what we call “India” now is really just North India and Gujarat exported everywhere. Loud, entitled, convinced that rules are for other people.

The problem isn't that women are now independent. It is that men aren't.
Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC weren’t happy. Then we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn’t happy.
One could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??
The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn’t meant for you.
Nonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!
Win for Indian women.
A deeply misogynistic society that hates women from the moment they’re born until the day they die doesn’t deserve their reproductive labour.
jesus christ. your mom is recounting her experiences and you are downplaying because...she is fueling you against them????
I feel like men do not care for their mother's experiences because they instinctively feel like a part of their father's family as they grow older

I’will never get tired of reminding you that if men were the ones with a uterus, pads and tampons would be free. If men could get pregnant, you’d be able to get the abortion pill OTC, and there would be zero abortion restrictions.
