On Tuesday, Muslim locals had protested after Hindutva groups took out a rally to offer prayers to a Shivling in the Aland Dargah premises, in violation of section 144.

Families of some of those arrested say they were not involved in yesterday’s protest.

Around 200 Muslims, including women, were arrested in Aland, Karnataka in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two people died, allegedly due to panic amid chaos during arrests.
