I need to compete against the best guys in the world. That’s why I got into this sport and that’s all I want. I never explored free agency to look for better money, I didn’t entertain offers from other organisations that approached me either. I only have one goal. UFC belt 🏆
🥊STANDOUT PROSPECT OF THE WEEK🥊
🇬🇧Muhidin Abubakar (13-1) - Flyweight
🟢Defeated 🇧🇷Ronaldo Oliveira (11-6-1) via 1st round TKO at FSC 37
The UFC is looking for ninjas at 125 pounds.
And Muhidin Abubakar is exactly the kind of fighter they should be looking for.
Abubakar just picked up the ninth finish of his professional career, stopping Ronaldo Oliveira in the opening round at FSC 37. That moves him to 13-1 as a professional and adds another finish to an already impressive résumé.
This isn't some regional newcomer padding his record, either. Abubakar is the reigning FSC Flyweight Champion and a former UAE Warriors champion, and his résumé stacks up extremely well against the other flyweight prospects competing on the regional scene.
But there's another element to Muhidin that makes him particularly interesting.
He has built a huge following in England, where he trains, while also representing his Somali heritage with enormous pride. Abubakar has made it clear that he wants to become the first fighter of Somali descent to earn a UFC contract, and if he gets that opportunity, he won't be walking into the UFC alone.
He'll have an entire country behind him.
We've seen how surprised UFC brass can be when a fighter from a less represented market suddenly arrives with an absolutely massive following behind them. Think of the support some Central Asian fighters have brought with them. Now imagine that same energy behind Muhidin when he gets signed.
That's exactly what I expect.
At 13-1, with nine career finishes, championship experience, elite regional opposition and a fanbase that is only going to grow, Abubakar feels like a matter of WHEN, not IF.
If the UFC is serious about finding the next generation of killers at 125 pounds, they should be making the call.
Muhidin Abubakar is ready.
