Meanwhile, that modern Turkey is not a continuation of the Ottoman Empire. It is its negation.
When Mustafa Kemal Ataturk founded the Republic in 1923, his first mission was to erase the Ottoman past because he considered it a "burden" and a "failure."
He abolished the Sultanate and the Caliphate.
He banned the Arabic script that Ottomans used for 600 years.
He threw away the Ottoman language, replacing it with a constructed modern Turkish that makes today's Turks unable to read even their own great-grandfathers' gravestones!
He claims "Istanbul was always Turkish,"😂😂😂 yet the Ottoman elites he, obviously, admires didn't even call themselves "Turks". They used "Turk" as a derogatory term for uneducated peasants. They called themselves "Osmanli" (Ottoman) and looked down on the very ethnic identity he is now trying to defend.
They are an orphan of an Empire that their own Republic killed. They claim the glory of the Ottomans while living in a state that was built to spit on their legacy. If Ataturk heard him today, he would call him "backward" for clinging to an imperial ghost that he worked his whole life to bury!
Furthermore...Turkish' architectural pride, those soaring minarets and domes, are nothing but architectural plagiarism of the Hagia Sophia! This Greek Orthodox masterpiece that stood for 900 years before their ancestors even saw the Bosphorus!
He is defending a culture built on "stolen" ingredients (from the yogurt of the ancient Greek to the Byzantine domes of their mosques).
If he strips away the Greek, Persian, and Armenian layers, there is nothing left of the "Turkish" identity but the horses their ancestors rode in on!
