📢 Our team members bring science closer to society, one discussion at a time!
Last Thursday, Gisela Hernández (@IPP_CSIC) led a talk in Tudela (Navarra) on the EU’s resilience in times of crisis.
Thanks to everyone who joined the debate! 🇪🇺✨

🌟 On January 23-24, the Seminario de Investigadoras e Investigadores en Formación #SIF took place at @UAM_Madrid, in collab with @IPP_CSIC
Special shoutout to @andreinavher
who shared her work on European Commission's use of external expertise in Rule of Law enforcement👏
Essentially, governments that do not see themselves as potential targets of enforcement are more likely to support EU RoL interventions.
Reluctance to enforce the RoL EU-wide results from fear of becoming a future target of such enforcement!
🌟 🚀 New Paper Alert!!
Our IP @carlos_closa and researcher @Giselahg_ examined national governments' preferences on Rule of Law enforcement in the EU between 2016 and 2021, exploring the factors that shape these preferences.
Read here:
https://t.co/Idx8kWErsX
@carlos_closa@Giselahg_ We found that the configuration explaining pro-enforcement preferences are:
-Early EU accession
-Strong democratic institutions
-Being a net contributor to the EU budget
Newer member states that are net recipients of EU funds often show greater hesitation toward RoL enforcement

Have you already checked our latest article? We differentiate the model of ‘defiant non-compliance’ from other types of non-compliance and systematise empirical evidence on the Polish PiS and Hungarian Fidesz governments' reactions to EU enforcement.

New Article!!!📢
Authored by @carlos_closa & @Giselahg_, we introduce 'defiant non-compliance'—a deliberate strategy from Hungary and Poland to resist EU enforcement, consequently undermining #RuleOfLaw compliance in the EU.
