Was so math happy watching @DcLstem students work together to figure out the Black History Month Scavenger Hunt clue this morning that I designed using a locker combination lock and some math problems ÷]. Thanks for the opportunity to execute this @AtiyaHarley .
Was not teaching the most riveting lesson today (factoring quadratic trinomials where a>1) when I witnessed one of the best "aha" moments in my career.
Referencing her factored form to the binomials we multiplied in our StartUp, student exclaimed, "The end is where we started!"
"Fist at the belly" - students prep to send a subtle signal of 'thumbs up' as a way to inform that they have something to contribute. This strategy encourages all students to participate in problems and discussions and it reduces the "spectator effect" after seeing a raised hand.
Gonser notes that documenting the design process - purposeful class time of cycling through projects, stumbling, starting over and improving - is key to developing a growth mindset of learning from mistakes and showing students their progress over time.
Students with a fixed mindset may “feel anxious about failure because they see it as a negative statement on their basic knowledge in a subject or class.” These 4 strategies are important for teaching students how to tolerate failure & develop resilience. https://t.co/PU0Ta84B2p

Will the proofs be available by topic (ie. quadrilaterals, parallel lines and transversals, etc) or rather in a general "geometry proofs" topic as seen on the sample?
@TallTechyTeach@Catlin_Tucker A suggestion for the min grade requirements: have students complete reflections+corrections on formative assessments that can earn them points back (I do 50% or next rubric score). This way the grade can be updated at a later date and students are encouraged to be reflective.
