Halfway through last year's #IPAY festival it was suggested to me that my reviews could be kinder. So I stopped writing them. (Make of that what you will.) Consequently I won't be tweeting this year either. Here's hoping no shows deserve kindness this time round. #IPAY2020
Day Three. Spotlights - David Gonzalez (excellent), Ow! (fun). Spotlight on Scotland - why? Getting Dressed - too dancey for me. A Simple Space - really good. Sadly missed Wilde Creatures - but I’ve been told it was good and should have been an official selection. #ipay2019
Day Two. Spotlights - Wilde Creatures (promising), Spaghetti (fun), Slingsby (can anyone be more sincere?). Babylon - misconceived, badly directed & boring. Hermit - excellent (specially the small boy). Egg - started well, went off. Lumens - fun but needed more science. #ipay2019
Day One. A Letter for Elena - way too serious. Penguins - pretty good - especially once the child penguin was born. Bubble Man - scary. HUGS - not great. Dutch Spotlight - all kinds of fun. Magic City - clever but repetitive. Thumbelina - simple and excellent. #ipay2019
@stagetrick @IPAYtweet @BoatRockerEnt Sorry to miss you too. I’ve seen The Bookbinder in full before - one of my favourite shows of all time. Glad you liked the reviews. :-)
Closing Party. A fun time was had by all, with Pss Pss the deserving winners of the Victor Award. Overall it’s been a fulfilling and very well organised festival, with only the quality of certain Showcase performances to be questioned. #IPAY2018
Showcase Reflection. Quote of the day goes to Søren from Batida who asked why so few shows at IPAY Showcase tell stories. Something to address in the future? #IPAY2018
Ajijaack on Turtle Island. This show did a profound diisservice to Native American culture. Lovely puppets - in need of a script. And a director. A dispiriting finale to an otherwise great festival. #IPAY2018
Invisi’BALL. Very loud and very dull. A piece of “theater-dance” that somehow manages to be neither theater nor dance. And addresses Israeli macho aggression in sport while conveniently ignoring it in politics. And showed nearly no soccer. #ipay2018
Pss Pss. Just brilliant. Sagged a tiny bit in the middle for me - but returned to virtuoso clowning after that. Nice to see performers who really know what they’re doing. #IPAY2018
Friday Spotlights - not quite as good as Thursday’s, but Mr Hatch was particularly lovely. Note to Puzzle - don’t underestimate the 0-3 age group. #ipay2018
Thursday Spotlights. Bookbinder, Brouhaha and Goldilocks all brilliant - would have loved to see full length versions. 20 minutes of tennis dance was enough though. #IPAY2018
