Rains has been a blessing for Chennai in the last 5 years from 2020 for Chennai. Not often you will see NEM on a roll for 5 year streak. It has always been erratic and rarely there has been streak. There was such a great streak for 7 years from 2005 to 2011.

This year in 2024, the uniqueness was the rains was spread over all three months there was no extreme spells like 2023 which was one off events. This year we got major spells in Mid-October, Fengal at November end and the December 2nd week rains. Three spells which were in 150 mm range.

Not only Lake levels, but the ground water in Chennai has also been very good with rains spread from all three months. At many places they are found in just 1.5 metres

I have excluded Thervoykandigai being new dam from the list, which is also close to 100% full. There is also the quota of Krishna water available, we can keep the Chennai water levels close to brim even in the months of March and Apr
