In 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer was arrested after opening fire at an elementary school in San Diego, California.

Two people were killed and eight others were wounded.

When asked by a reporter why she did it, Spencer replied, “I just don’t like Mondays.”

Larry Davis surrenders after a 17-day manhunt, 1986.

He had shot six NYPD officers during a raid on his sister’s apartment in The Bronx.

His defence, led by William Kunstler, argued the officers were corrupt and that the raid was connected to Davis’s knowledge of police corruption.

A passenger aboard the Titanic, he refused to enter a lifeboat.

He changed into formal evening wear and reportedly asked that his family be told he “did his best” and was prepared to go down “like a gentleman.”

He died when the ship sank.

On November 24, 1971, an unidentified man using the alias Dan Cooper hijacked Northwest Orient Flight 305 shortly after take-off from Portland.

He demanded $200,000 and parachutes, released the passengers in Seattle, then later jumped from the aircraft mid-flight over the Pacific Northwest. He was never found.

The case remains one of the only unsolved airline hijackings in U.S. history.

On 28 November 1979, a sightseeing flight from New Zealand was conducting an overflight of Antarctica.

The aircraft later struck Mount Erebus during the operation. This footage was recorded earlier on the same flight.
