Giving a voice to British business from a pro-Brexit, pro-trade position. Chair - @john4IBN

🗣️Labour MP Ben Goldsborough has admitted something many UK small businesses have been saying for months: the Employment Rights Act is not a vote winner🧵

With the Budget due to take plece on Wednesday, our Advisory Board Member, Roger Bootle reflects on the challenges facing the country.

A Healey, unprecedented debt, soaring energy bills, huge state spending, taxes, its all like the 1970s.

Our Chair @john4IBN says that the UK economy faces disaster unless the government adopts more pro-enterprise, pro-business policies.

Our recent paper on measures to support business calls for a range of measures to facilitate growth.

The realities under this government.

HMRC writes off billions in tax as businesses collapse.

Net zero, a bloated state, regulation and soaring taxes are destroying the private sector.

We need a massive change in policy.

Returning to the orbit of Brussels would be a disaster for the British economy and for family run and family owned business.

We need the government to slash regulation, cut tax and let businesses thrive, not tinker with treaties with Brussels.

[Independent Business Network @IndBusNet]

@LiamHalligan is absolutely right. We need business groups like ours to speak up for family businesses.

The state is expanding, taxes are soaring as is borrowing.

We need to live within our means and let business thrive.

Advisory Board member @TheBluetrot says the state cannot solve the national care crisis.

The Prime Minister has promise state funded social care, but it is unaffordable.

We need a private sector led solution and a competitive market to lower prices.

Ahead of John Healey's first Budget, a reminder that companies don’t pay tax - people do. And that also applies to energy suppliers and to banks.

In more technical terms, companies are only legal entities and cannot bear the economic burden of tax themselves. Tax increases are therefore always passed on to real people.

Shareholders will bear some of the cost through lower profits and dividends, although many 'ordinary' people own shares through their pension funds.

But customers will also pay through higher prices, while employees will face lower wages.

Everyone may lose if companies cut jobs and investment or move activity overseas.

So, whenever someone says, “companies should pay their fair share” or “tax banks, not workers”, ask them where the money will really come from… 🤔

The government is borrowing an unprecedented amount- around £369million a day.

Debit is spiralling out of control, which means we are paying more than ever in interest payments.

The government MUST reduce spending, starting with welfare.

Successive Chancellors have pledged to cut regulation.

Successive Chancellors have failed to do so. Forgive us if we don't hold our breath.

We were the only business group who produced a full regulation cutting report- its online Chnacellor have a read.

The national interest should come before Net-Zero, without doubt.

The Energy Secretary needs to ditch her ideology and put the country first and allow new drilling at Rosebank.

Country before Net-Zero.

Barnier, the former chief negotiator of the EU has said the Prime Minister must seek the consent of the British people before seeking a new relationship with the EU.

Can't believe we're saying this- but we agree with Barnier. The PM has no mandate.

Economist @LiamHalligan says that the rising costs we are facing at the pumps and in our energy bills is of our own making.

The UK ideological approach to Net-Zero, our dither and delay on Oil and Gas, and Green taxes are causing our problems.

[Independent Business Network @IndBusNet]

Even the Guardian is now concerned about rising electricity costs.

Soaring costs are destroying British industry and yet the government hangs on to mad net-zero.

Green ideology is being put above the needs of our economy.

Here we have it...Net-zero is making it harder to keep the lights on.

This governments obsession with net-zero is making us less safe, less secure and our energy more expensive.

The government must change course.

Labour MPs are rebelling over the Prime Ministers attempts to take us back into the European Union.

Re-opening the Brexit debate will harm growth as the uncertainty will deter businesses investment.

We need the government to focus on growth.

Our Advisory Board member, Roger Bootle, remarks upon the dreadful backdrop to the coming Budget.

High taxation, net-zero, low productivity, high regulation, and huge government spending. It is a recipe for disaster.

[Independent Business Network @IndBusNet]

Under this government the power of Trade Unions is increasing.

Employers, already under the burden of high taxation, net-zero and regulation are facing new employment laws.

Its back to the 1970s with this government.

[Independent Business Network @IndBusNet]

This government has made Britain a less attractive place to invest.

Research has shown that a third of investors are ready to stop spending in the UK after the budget.

The Chancellor must respond. Cut taxes. Cut welfare. Cut regulation. Slash net-zero.

Economist @LiamHalligan says that the soaring diesel prices are the product of our own making.

The governments refusal to allow extra drilling for Oil and Gas is contributing to our massive energy bills.

The government needs to see sense and drill!

While some within the Labour Party are seeking to return us to the orbit of the EU, some realise this is an error.

Returning to the EU would harm growth, investment and cause instability for businesses.
