🧵 THE WRONG DEAL FOR STEEL
The present plan for the steel industry will:
• Destroy thousands of jobs
• Undermine ‘levelling up’
• Result in higher imports
• Erode UK capabilities

Excellent to see cross-party support for #LevellingUp the former #coalfields.
Following on from @AlexDaviesJones raising the @APPGCoalfield's inquiry report during DLUHC questions last week, @AaronBell4NUL brought it to the Prime Minister's attention during PMQs yesterday.
I raised our new @APPGCoalfield Report - "Next Steps in Levelling Up the Former Coalfields" - at #PMQs today and was really pleased with the PM's response.
I look forward to working with the APPG to push Newcastle-under-Lyme and all our former coalmining areas forward.
Many @IndCommAlliance local authorities and @CoalfieldsRegen partners contributed to the inquiry into Next Steps in Levelling Up the Former Coalfields so it is fantastic to see the report being discussed during Prime Minister's Questions.

A privilege to chair @APPGCoalfield's report launch on levelling up the coalfields.
The report makes 12 recommendations to boost local economies without relying on ‘trickle down’ from cities.

Today the @APPGCoalfield launched our report on Levelling Up the Former Coalfields.
The report makes it clear that more attention must be paid to former coalfield areas, particularly transport infrastructure and opportunities for young people.
We are calling on @michaelgove to swiftly implement all 12 recommendations from today's @APPGCoalfield report 'Next Steps in #LevellingUp the Former Coalfields'.
The @CoalfieldsRegen response to the recommendations in the report is outlined below in this thread. 🧵
⏰ The report on Next Steps in Levelling Up the Former Coalfields, shaped by many Industrial Communities Alliance member authorities, will be launched on Monday 12 June.
Tyrone O'Sullivan was an inspiration to me - he told me to 'never forget & always keep fighting'.
.@APPGCoalfield will soon launch a landmark report on the next steps to level up our former coalfields.
The Tory Government has left our communities behind & must do more.
Excellent turnout for today’s @SeneddWales Cross Party Group (CPG) on Industrial Communities for our discussion on Levelling Up with @lisanandy.
Lots of MSs, Councillors, external partners and even Members of the Scottish Parliament in attendance.
The @APPGCoalfield inquiry into Levelling Up the Former Coalfields is still accepting submissions until the end of this week.

We were delighted to host MPs from @APPGCoalfield at our “Celebrating the Coalfields” event in Parliament. 🤝
It comes after the launch a new inquiry into improving the areas we serve… 🔍
….which as @AlexDaviesJones shows made the front of the @yorkshirepost yesterday! 🗞️
I was delighted to be able to support the great work of the @APPGCoalfield last night at their reception celebrating the launch of a new inquiry into how to level up our coalfield communities.
