Independent providers play a vital role in ensuring NHS patients can access the cataract surgery they need - as a result of the sector's involvement, ophthalmology is the only major NHS specialty where waiting times are now lower than they were in 2019

Private clinics delivering NHS cataract surgery face investigation over claims they have artificially inflated costs for the taxpayer, performed unnecessary operations and incentivised high-street optometrists to refer patients to their services ⬇️

📱Align NHS & independent sector digital systems so patients can see appts + results on the NHS App
🤝 Encourage long-term relationships to enable ⬆️ independent sector investment in the NHS

Independent providers already treat millions of NHS patients every year, and this agreement builds on these strong foundations
