어떤 두려움은 지금 이 순간의 것이 아닙니다. 과거 당신을 무너뜨렸던 순간들의 기억에서 비롯된 것이죠. 좋은 날에도 두려움이 스며드는 건 참 이상한 일입니다. 아직 일어나지도 않은 일에 대한 불안감이 스며드는 것도 이상하죠. 대부분의 경우, 우리가 두려워하는 건 미래가 아닙니다. 악몽을 되풀이하는 과거입니다. 마음은 앞으로 나아가지만, 몸은 기억합니다. 갑작스러운 끝맺음, 감정의 지진, 한순간 모든 것을 바꿔놓았던 순간들을. 그래서 두려움이 시작됩니다. "모든 게 다시 무너지면 어떡하지?" 뭔가 잘못돼서가 아니라, 과거에 예고 없이 모든 게 잘못됐던 기억 때문입니다. 과장된 것도 아니고, 지나치게 생각하는 것도 아닙니다. 누군가의 지지 없이 힘든 시간을 겪었던 경험이 있기 때문입니다. 때로는 가진 것을 잃을까 봐 두려워하는 게 아닙니다. 과거에 당신을 죽음 직전까지 몰고 갔던 그 순간을 다시 겪는 것이 두려운 것입니다. 당신 마음속엔 여전히 침묵과 고통, 아무도 이해해주지 않았던 그 모든 시련을 견뎌냈던 당신만의 모습이 남아있어요. 그러니 평화로운 날에도 두려움이 찾아온다면, 이 사실을 기억하세요. 당신은 나약한 존재가 아니에요. 당신은 사람들이 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많은 시련을 이겨낸 사람이에요.

두려워하는 것도 괜찮아요. 저도 두려워요.
