The intersection of 4th and C Street, right by Independence Elementary School, is now an all-way stop-controlled crossroad. Traffic Control Change Ahead signs, supplemental stop bars, road paint, and fold-out stop signs have been posted.

With the 4th of July holiday weekend approaching, Polk County Fire District No.1, in partnership with the City of Independence, wanted to supply you with four simple safety tips to keep in mind when lighting fireworks in our community.
