Proposing Time-Bound 3,3
I started my 3,3 journey ~2 weeks ago, and my current portfolio value is ~100 ETH. While I've observed many positive aspects of 3,3, I've also identified potential issues that could arise in the mid to long term. In this post, I aim to outline these problems and suggest a potential solution - Time-Bound 3,3.
Important: I have NOT yet adopted this Time-Bound 3,3 strategy. This is merely a proposal for the 3,3 community, as I believe we need a realistic strategy moving forward.
Issues with the existing 3,3 strategy
- As the airdrop date approaches in a few months, it's clear that people will unwind their 3,3 positions around that time. Without a method to gradually release selling pressure beforehand, we risk chaos, with all diamond hands potentially becoming victims, much like what happened with OHM.
- Most 3,3 players simply lack the capital to maintain 3,3. When they run out of ETH, they can't continue the game without selling, which could trigger 3,3 cascades.
- There's a shortage of new, strong 3,3 players. While there may be many new 3,3 players each day, most lack sufficient capital or are brand new accounts with no track record. I believe the risk and responsibility of a 3,3 bond is too much for most. We need to find ways for players to take profit, or we won't get enough new players.
- The current 3,3 game is somewhat unfair to smaller 3,3 players. For instance, if a small player enters an equal value 3,3 deal with a larger player (say 2:1), the larger player can take profit by selling a key anytime and keep one for the bond, while the smaller player can't take profit and must assume all risks. Again, we need to create ways for people to take profit, or no one will join.
- There are many 3,3 ruggers. I've been rugged multiple times and, while I hate them, I understand why they chose to rug (Note: Here, I'm solely referring to the act of dumping 3,3 keys, not the act of dumping self keys). They likely wanted to protect their capital while they still could, as they were uncertain about the sustainability of the existing 3,3 strategy. Many didn't even profit much from their rugs, they were simply trying to protect their capital.
- In essence, all these problems boil down to one issue: There's no realistic profit-taking or exit strategy for 3,3 players.
Time-Bound 3,3
I propose Time-Bound 3,3, a 3,3 bond with a deadline. The 3,3 bond will expire after the deadline, freeing them from any obligation to hold each other. I suggest a one-month time-bound. While one month may seem short, it's a long time in friendtech (which is only ~2 months old, yet has seen many developments). Some benefits of Time-Bound 3,3 include:
- Providing a realistic profit-taking and exit strategy for 3,3 players, while still requiring a significant commitment from them (not selling for one month).
- Allowing people to release selling pressure before the airdrop in a few months, smoothing the transition from pre-airdrop to post-airdrop period.
- Healthily releasing the financial pressure of 3,3 players, allowing them to sell keys without being seen as defectors, which could prevent severe 3,3 cascades.
- Being more welcoming to new 3,3 players, as there's less responsibility to join, and they can clearly see potential profits.
- Being fairer to small 3,3 players, as they have a realistic way to profit when they enter an equal value 3,3 with larger players.
- Reducing people's motivation to rug. If they see how 3,3 can be sustainable and profitable, there will be less motivation to sell 3,3 keys irresponsibly.
I look forward to your feedback.
