Reporting: On 24th January, a right wing mob arrived at Maulana Asghar Ali’s home in Chhattisgarh, forced him out of his house and put him in their car. They said they’re taking him to the police station. When near the police station, they took him out of the car and began beating him up while chanting “Hindustan mein rehna hoga toh Jai Sri Ram kehna hoga”. A bloodied and bruised Ali felt relieved on spotting police officers, thinking they will save him from the mob. Instead, the police arrested Maulana Ali and kept him in jail for 6 days. Meanwhile, not one member of the mob has been arrested so far. “Members of the mob haven’t been identified yet,” say the police, despite there being a viral video of the incident. “I was beaten mercilessly and then I was the one who faced arrest too. I feel humiliated,” says Ali.
