साधारणतः दुपारचे अडीच वाजले असावेत. खुप ऊन चटकत होतं. सिंहगड रस्त्यावरील केंद्रीय जल विद्युत संशोधन केंद्राच्या (CWPRS) गेटसमोर लावलेल्या माझ्या गाडीकडे मी चाललो होतो.

दोन आदिवासी कातकरी महिला रानमेवा विकण्यासाठी रस्त्याच्या कडेला वडाच्या झाडाखाली बसलेल्या होत्या. एकीने करवंद आणले होते तर एकीने जांभळं आणली होती.

शिबीराच्या निमित्ताने भेटल्याने कुठेतरी पाहिलेलं असल्याने एकीचा चेहरा मला ओळखीचा दिसत होता. दुसरी मात्र अनोळखी होती.

अनोळखी माऊलीला मी विचारलं कसे दिले करवंद? "तीस रुपयाला माप दोन पन्नास ला देते घे!" असं उत्तर त्यांनी दिलं. मी द्या म्हटलं. माप म्हणजे ग्लास होता. त्या माऊलीने दोन ग्लास एका थोड्या फाटक्या प्लास्टिक पिशवीत टाकले आणि माझ्या हात पिशवी दिली.

मी पन्नास रुपयांची नोट त्या माऊलीच्या हातात दिल्यावर त्या खुप खुश होऊन म्हटल्या, "आताशी भवानी झाली !" पन्नासची नोट त्यांनी कमरेच्या कापडी पिशवीत ठेवली. दुसऱ्या माऊलीकडून मी पन्नास रुपयांची जांभळं घेतली.

करवंद घेऊन आलेली माऊली थेट लवासा (ता मुळशी) येथून आली होती. तर जांभळं घेऊन आलेली माऊली निगडे (ता राजगड) येथून आलेली होती.

दुपारी अडीच वाजता मी पहिलं गिऱ्हाईक होतो हे ऐकून जरा मनाला वाईट वाटलं. या आदिवासी कातकरी समाजासाठी मागील आठ वर्षांपासून मी काम करत आहे त्यामुळे यांच्या व्यथा माहित आहेत.

माझ्या शंभर रुपयांच्या खरेदीने दोघींना थोडं थोडं समाधान मी देऊ शकलो. माझी आपणा सगळ्यांना विनंती आहे खडकवासला, सिंहगड, पानशेत, पौड,मुळशी, ताम्हिणी, लोणावळा या भागात रस्त्याच्या कडेला असे काही कातकरी काही विकायला बसलेले दिसले तर अवश्य खरेदी करा.

तुमचे दहा,वीस, पन्नास रुपये त्यांच्यासाठी खुप मौल्यवान आहेत. सगळ्यात महत्वाचं म्हणजे त्यांना समाधान देणारे आहेत.

The family in India is struggling to obtain timely and accurate information regarding his medical condition and treatment. While he has reportedly been admitted to a government hospital, communication from the company has been extremely limited

His brother, serving in the Indian Army, is making all possible efforts to help the family reach Saudi Arabia and obtain information about his condition.
