Lt Gen KM Seth would be a hugely proud man today having received salute from his son who has just become the Chief of Army Staff! Gen Seth touched his parent’s Feet and also received a salute from his younger brother who is a serving Rear Admiral!
Both Lt Gen and Gen Seth have commanded the 21 Strike Corps.
Gen Seth also served as Governor of three states including Chhatisgarh, Tripura and MP.

Buying two squadrons of Su 57 is like asking your wife/ partner to be 'slightly pregnant'.

Nether here, nor there. And also, enormously stupid.

We walked our of this program in 2018, coz we noticed over 40 shortcomings, including the big one- this isnt a 5th Gen aircraft.

If we expect ToT and local manufacturing, then we are looking at over 10-15 years from now. BTW, Russian themselves have only two Regiments ( close to 50 aircraft).

American alternative is even worse !

Burn the bridges behind us- no escape and no retreat- AMCA or nothing.

in 1519, Hernán Cortés landed in Mexico with a small force facing overwhelming odds from the Aztec Empire. To motivate his men and to eliminate any thought of retreat, he ordered his ships burned . There would be no escape back to Cuba or Spain- victory or death.

Let rafale be the last imported fighter.
We should build the future at home- manned or unmanned.

Some equipment would still be imported - like Engine (till we develop our own), ejection seat ( alternatives available), AAR kit etc.
We build as much as we can here- at home.

Challenges with the domestic fighter program are less technical and more of project management. A whole bunch of people need to be fired and a whole lot need to be fired-up.

One IAF 3 star to lead- reporting directly to NSA- weekly briefings- roll past the red tape. We pay the big price- PSU or private; people perform or perish. If the proposed timeline is overshot, the boss is replaced.

Ruthless mission mode energy is the bare minimum requirement.

Imported fifth gen fighter is a Chimera.

Capt Bhardwaj went a little further than he should have, but it's silly at worst. There's really no need to make a mountain out of a molehill.
The young Captain had just earned his wings as a combat helicopter pilot after rigorous training. In a burst of emotion after the Passing Out Parade, he proposed to his girlfriend. It happened in uniform, with a helicopter in the backdrop and family/colleagues cheering.

Romantic and human- Absolutely.
But also- inappropriate in terms of protocol and discipline.

The Army quite rightly is displeased. However, this will likely end with an interview with the boss without the chair and the tea. He would be given a rap on the knuckles- and that should be it.

Remember- we are willing to send our young into the harm’s way without hesitation- in return, we should be willing to accommodate a bit of antics.

Discipline is the spine of the Army, while the human spirit is its soul. When troops storm the gates of hell- they are not driven by the discipline rather the spirit.
A dash of personality doesn’t weaken the force- it keeps it alive. I am not sure about the Army, but in the Air Force young officers have gotten away with much worse.

Capt Bhardwaj will almost certainly take the rap on the knuckles, in the right spirits, learn the lesson, and go on to fly with distinction.

Let’s not overdo the outrage- our Army can handle a romantic moment.
