But Abenaki in Quebec are alleging that the groups are committing cultural identity theft on their ancestral territory.

@jfkeeler @OGAride Ben & Jerry need to call up the tribal council at the Odanak Abenaki reserve in Quebec. That land was theirs and the last tribe of real Abenakis (Missisquoi) were forced to leave because the new Vermont patriots took possession of it and claimed it as theirs.

@Quinobequin9 To be fair, anyone can sue anyone and this was only a threat to sue. Keeler's response was intelligent. The burden of proving defamation and injury is on the plaintiff and indigenous identity will definitely be a major component of this case. This may backfire on the plaintiff.

Unless Ancestry is in on a conspiracy with Keeler and manipulating a century & a half of censuses and vital records, I had the same conclusion. Can you expand on what was manipulated and tampered with?

@DarrylLeroux There's no Great Warrior Prophet named "Onandaga." There was only one and he brought the Haudenosaunee's spiritual beliefs & way of life to them. It's still honored to this day. It's known by us that Joseph Smith was a fanboy of the Six Nations.

@DarrylLeroux They don't spell Ticoderoga correctly. It's the phonetic pronunciation a Mohawk word, Tekontaró:ken. It's doubtful a native woman had an English name of Susannah Ferguson then, unless they can explain why, and they don't. This is the typical American family Indian Princess lore.

@jfkeeler All that research her family did and she never looked at the Ancestry Trees?? Someone in her family did excellent genealogical research all the way to the 1600s of this Rice line. The white Rice's descendants are fascinated with the story of the two boys taken captive.

@jfkeeler She's claiming Mohawk based on the two Rice brothers taken captive in 1704, by Kahnawake Mohawks and adopted into the tribe. Their descendants are still there. Except it's not her line that became Mohawk, it's a relative of her Rice ancestor whose grandson's were taken.
